Abstract:

The earliest written examples of the Minsi dialect of Delaware or
Lenape are collected here. The bulk of this volume consists of
Rev. John Heckewelder's Minsi vocabulary, collected in the late 1700's
and totaling 100 entries. Also included are a number of scattered
linguistic fragments collected from Minsi tribes such as the
Manhattans and Hackensacks from 1630 through 1798.

The American Language Reprints (ALR) series is dedicated to preserving
and consolidating early primary source records of Native American
languages with the goal of making them more accessible and readily
