Two PhD positions (full time)

Research direction
The Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication focuses on the
study of both functionally and formally oriented linguistic
research. This research is carried out in the following project
groups: Functional grammar; Generative linguistics; Cognition,
pragmatics and semantics; Speech communication and phonetics;
Discourse analysis and text structure; Language variation, language
contact and language change; First language acquisition and language
pathology; Second language acquisition. There are also special theme
groups in which researchers from several project groups participate in
the fields of Typology, Sign languages and Creole studies. .The
Language Blueprint. functions as an important interface between the
different research groups. From the project and theme groups seven PhD
projects have been proposed for which candidates may apply. Candidates
may apply for more than one project. Candidates may also formulate
their own proposal for a project on condition that this can be
embedded into .The Language Blueprint.. From all applications the two
best candidates will be selected.

Tasks
The PhD student needs to carry out the research within four years and
needs to write a dissertation.

Requirements
MA in linguistics, obtained no longer than five years ago.

Position
The PhD student will be appointed as .assistant in opleiding
(aio). for a period of four years (full time) at the Faculty of
Humanities of the University of Amsterdam under the terms of
employment currently valid for the Faculty.
