The Faculty of Arts is looking for:

Professor (m/f) of African Linguistics
(vacancy number 3-098)

The position entails the following:
- Teaching in the field of African languages and cultures;
- Conducting research in the field of African linguistics;
- Embarking upon, stimulating and supervising research, including
  Ph.D. research;
- Initiating and supervising new research projects and supporting
  current research projects;
- Raising funds necessary to carry out existing and new education and
  research projects;
- Performing administrative tasks within the Department of African
  Languages and Cultures of the Faculty of Arts, and within the
  Research School of Asian, African and Amerindian Studies CNWS;
- Promoting the interests of the field within and outside of the
university community.

The candidate must have a Ph.D.

The candidate:
- Has considerable research experience in the field of African
  linguistics, as evidenced from a substantial list of publications
  with renowned publishers or in leading journals in this field;
- Has proven ability to conduct research on the basis of data he/she
  has collected personally;
- Has excellent didactic skills as well as the ability to teach on a
  broad range of subjects while inspiring students;
- Has proven ability to use his/her scientific status, expertise and
  personality to attract and guide young talent;
- Has proven ability to obtain indirect funding for current and new
  education and research projects;
- Has proven administrative and management skills and is willing to
  actively take part in administrative and managerial tasks within the
  Department, the relevant joint research efforts and the Faculty of
  Arts;
- Is willing and has proven ability to represent the program's
  interests and the interests of the research cluster within the
  University and within the Research School as well as nationally and
  internationally.

If the candidate is not a native Dutch speaker, he/she is expected to
master the Dutch language within two years.

assessment of the applicant's management skills.
