Salary around 52,000 GBP

The University is seeking to appoint a permanent Head to succeed
Professor Brian Hill who retires at the end of this academic year. The
School of Languages is dynamic and forward looking with a strong
regional, national and international reputation for its work in modern
languages and TESOL teaching and has a growing student population.

In addition to a recently revised and extended undergraduate and
post-graduate portfolio of courses, the School offers a continuous
programme of short courses for international students and a University
wide language support programme. The School's teaching is complemented
by its strong research profile in linguistics and area studies, rated
Grade 5 in the 2001 RAE.

The successful candidate will have leadership and management qualities
demonstrated through a record of successful academic and resource
management, and a strong academic profile in an area(s) related to the
work of the School.
