The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

University or Organization: Penn State
Department: Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures
Rank of Job: Lecturer
Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, German

Description:

Penn State has an opening in German for a one-year position as
Language Program Director beginning in Fall 2003. Duties include
direction of the basic language program (semesters 1, 2 & 3) and four
courses. Salary ca. 30k. The position may convert to tenure-track in
fall 2004 pending a national search. In that case, we would be
looking for a specialist in German applied linguistics who could
contribute to the departmental Ph.D. option in German applied
linguistics.

In recent years, Penn State has experienced tremendous growth in the
field of applied linguistics including numerous (senior) hires,
curricular revision, and the establishment of two centers. Spanish,
French and German offer Ph.D. options in applied linguistics in
conjunction with a new unit: Linguistics and Applied Language Studies
(LALS). LALS offers a stand alone Ph.D. in applied linguistics in
addition to these departmental options. http://lals.la.psu.edu/

The Center for Language Acquisition was established in 1999.
