We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Dear Native Speakers of English,

Could you please let me know what you think of the following sentence?
I'd rather not give any details on why I would be asking this in order
to rule out any bias based on my explanation. Your reply will be
greatly appreciated and I will post the summary of my inquiry.

The man gives a dog a water.

Thank you.

Hans Prufer

Subject: Discourse markers

Hi! I wrote to the Linguistlist a few days ago asking for a list of
discourse markers and received many excellent replies. I was wondering
if the person who sent me an extensive list of discourse markers could
write to me again because a need a reference and a cannot find her
mail. (It was in PDF-format) (93 pages) (A database of discourse
markers it was called)

	Thank you
	Best regards Jill Bergman
