The LINGUIST List depends on the generous contributions from
subscribers like you; we would not be able to operate without your
help.

The moderators, staff, and student editors at LINGUIST would like to
take this opportunity to thank you for your continuous support.

We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Dear linguists,

I am a pH. D student specialist in English language and
linguistics.Currently I'm working on my project which is about
'linguistic hedging'. Unfortunately I am unable to get any reference
about this subject because of the regional conditions which you might
be fully aware of . Therefore I should be much grateful and really
indebted to you if you would kindly send me some references about
'HEDGING'.I am sorry to disturb you but I am badly in need to your
help. In fact I have a very limited access to the internet .

My mailing address is :

Miss EBA' M. ALRASSAM, UNIVERSITY OF MOSUL ,P.O BOX 11159 , MOSUL '

Waiting your kind answer, thank you very much in advance.

I am looking for any information on word counts in other languages in relation to English. For example, on the average, how many words are there in French for 100 words in English communicating the same meaning? I am interested in any reference materials concerning any language.

Dawn Montague
