Please take a moment to read the following messages - Thank You!

  **********************************************************************

This year we need to raise $50,000 in order to keep LINGUIST
running! Valuable services like our Journals and TOC announcements
  cannot operate without your help.

			***************************

So far we have raised $24,564.91. This amount has been
contributed by 465 donors, a figure which represents 2.74% of our
17,000+ subscibers. Please add your name to The LINGUIST List Hall of
Fame by making a donation - even $5 will make a world of difference.

  **********************************************************************

Dear Subcribers,

Journals and Journal TOCs on LINGUIST

In the year of 2002, LINGUIST posted over 330 TOC announcements, which
was nearly a 70% increase from our total the year before. As the
number shows, LINGUIST is becoming a significant facility to send
journal publications, and most of our supporting publishers are now
using this facility.

The journal information posted on LINGUIST is stored in our database.
Through the user-friendly interface, you can get a list of journal
information and search our database for journals by language and/or
linguistic subfield. As results of the search, you are able to get
the journal title, publisher with URL, journal description, and ISSN.

At the Journal and Newsletter area of the website you can:
-submit a journal TOC
-submit a journal call for papers
-read this year's LINGUIST issues for journal TOCs
-browse an alphabetical listing of linguistic and related journals
-browse journals' calls for papers

The URL of the Journal and Newsletter area is:

http://saussure.linguistlist.org/cfdocs/new-website/LL-WorkingDirs/pubs/
tocs/index.cfm

We are going to develop the publication area more and more based on
the users point of view; it is your contributions that make that
possible. Most of the work to develop the area will be done by the
graduate students who depend on you for support. So, could you please
kindly support the crew and contribute to our fund drive? If you make
a donation to us, you can get a wonderful cookbook or a cute apron. I
would also like to thank everyone who has already donated and all the
Publishers, Institutions, and individuals who donate throughout the
year.

Thank you very much!!

Tomoko Okuno
Journal & TOC Editor

Dear Subscribers,

I am a graduate student in the linguistics program at Eastern Michigan
University (EMU). I came to the U.S. about four years ago from Japan
where I received BA in English Literature and Linguistics at Doshisha
University. My dream was to be a teacher of English as a foreign
language, so I came to the U.S. and studied TESOL. After I finished
the TESOL program at EMU, I started to pursue the second master degree
in Linguistics. That was when I got involved in LINGUIST List.

I knew little about LINGUIST before joining it, so I was so surprised
that LINGUIST List was handling so much information and so many
functions. My first task here was web development, such as formatting
web pages and checking those pages using several browsers (IE, NS,
Opera, and Mozilla). I remember that I was scared of screwing up the
pages. After a few months, I started to work on posting TOC
announcements and programming using Cold Fusion. My computer
experience is very limited, so everything has been new for me. I am
learning programming while I am working.

I have enjoyed being a member of the LINGUIST crew; there are a lot of
wonderful people who help each other. Also, there is a motivating and
comfortable environment to work and to learn. To work at LINGUIST
List is the greatest experience I have ever had!

Sincerely,
Tomoko Okuno

Subject: How to Donate to LINGUIST and The LINGUIST List Hall of Fame

This year we hope to raise $50,000 to support the students who work on
LINGUIST List and keep the list running. Thank you from all the crew
for your support.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number
is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching scheme, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer.
This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the
value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra
penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a
scheme.
