FUND DRIVE 2003

To give you an incentive to donate, many of our Supporting Publishers
have generously donated some amazing linguistic prizes. As a donor you
are automatically entered into this prize draw. To find out what's on
offer and the rules etc., visit:

We still have a long way to go, however, to reach our target of
$50,000. Please make a donation at:

The LINGUIST List depends on the generous contributions from
subscribers like you; we would not be able to operate without your
help.

The moderators, staff, and student editors at LINGUIST would like to
take this opportunity to thank you for your continuous support.

Please keep conferences announcement as short as you can; LINGUIST

TOPIC

The aim of this workshop is to bring together diverse contributions in
philosophy, linguistics, computer science and lexicography to explore
the lexicon from the point of view of generativity. The discussions
will be centered, but are not limited to, the newly emerging view of
Generative Lexicon Theory (Pustejovky, 1995). Topics include:

- Philosophical Foundations of a Generative Approach
- Representation of Word Meaning
- Generative Lexicon Theory
- Analysis of Linguistic Phenomena
- Building Lexical Resources
- Exploiting Lexical Resources in NLP Applications
- Lexical Rules
- Framework for Lexical Semantics
- Critical Perspectives

In this second workshop we would like to keep all the above
perspectives, but put more of the focus on available on-line lexical
resources in order to compare experience. The discussions will be
centered, but not limited to, the following topics:

* Building new resources
* Acquiring lexical information
* Maintaining resources
* Representing lexical information (i.e. polysemy, collocation
links, multiword expressions, predicate-argument structure)
* Using lexical information in applications
* Specialization and customization for specific applications
* Links between different frameworks
* Sharing lexical resourcesBuilding Lexical Resources
* Multilinguality in the lexicon
* Standardization and evaluation

The conference will be held over a period of two and a half days.
Oral presentations (30 min) and poster presentations are foreseen.

Invited speakers include:

Nicoletta Calzolari (Istituto Di LinguisticaComputazionale, Pisa)
Ann Copestake (Cambridge University, Cambridge)
Christiane Fellbaum (Princeton University)
Charles J. Fillmore(International Computer Science Institute,
Berkeley)
Alex Lascarides (University of Edinburgh)
