Meeting Description:

The PAAL conference is a forum for academic exchange among scholars
and practioners in applied linguistics and related areas. The
internationally recognized conference provides a venue for the
dissemination of current research on a wide variety of issues.

AREAS OF INTEREST

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following
topics:

* Language Acquisition (FLA/SLA)		
* Language Policy and Planning
* Material Development				
* Language and Culture
* Pedagogy (Language/Literature)		
* Theoretical Linguistics
* CALL						
* Psycholinguistics/Neurolinguistics
* Language Testing 				
* Sociolinguistics
* TESOL Methodology				
* Text Analysis

PRESENTATION FORMAT

Oral presentations will be alloted 20 minutes for the presentation and
10 minutes for discussion and questions. Poster presentations will be
designated 2 hour blocks for display and discussion.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(1) All abstracts should be submitted via e-mail to Nari Lee at
paalkorea at yahoo.co.kr
(2) In the body of the e-mail, indicate your name(s), affiliation,
e-mail address, the title of your abstract, area, and presentation
format (paper, poster, either).
(3) The abstract should be submitted as an attachment. Do not include
your name within the attachment. Use a standard file format,
preferably MS Word for Windows. The title of the attached abstract
file should be the (first) author's name. If your abstract includes
phonetic fonts or extensive formatting, submit a pdf file with fonts
embedded.
(4) Only one submission per individual author and one joint author
submission will be considered.

DEADLINE

Abstracts are due Saturday, May 31, 2003.

PUBLICATIONS

All accepted papers are eligible to be published in the PAAL 2003
Conference Proceedings.

The Journal of PAAL is a biannual publication of PAAL. The Journal
welcomes contributions written in English on applied linguistics and
related interdisciplinary fields. For submission guidelines, please
refer to the PAAL homepage (http://www.paal.co.kr).

Papers related to this theme or any other areas in linguistics are
welcome.

Submission: Abstracts of about 1000 words (Chinese or English) The 4th
Postgraduate Research Forum on Linguistics, organized by the
Department of Linguistics, University of Hong Kong, co-organized by
the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics, City
University of Hong Kong, and the Department of Modern Languages and
Intercultural Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and sponsored
by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong, will be held from 31st October
to 1st November, 2003 in the University of Hong Kong.

All current postgraduate students are cordially invited to attend and
present papers at the forum. A special session on particles will be
organized. Papers related to this theme or any other areas in
linguistics are welcome. All abstracts will be anonymously
reviewed. Please send in two copies of the abstract, one with your
name included and one without. Participants from outside Hong Kong
will have their registration fees waived. Free accommodation will also
be provided.

Detailed abstracts of about 1000 words may be written in either
Chinese or English. Abstracts should be in at least 12 point type with
margins of at least 1-inch, single spaced. Along with the abstract,
send a separate sheet listing (1) title of the paper, (2) name(s) of
the author(s), (3) affiliation(s), (4) mailing address and (5) email
address.

Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint
abstract per author, or two joint abstracts per author. Abstracts are
required to be submitted in either DOC, RTF, or TXT format and sent to
the following email address:

In addition to the soft copy, the hard copy of the abstract should be
sent to the following address:
