The School of Modern Languages at Queen Mary, University of London has
some bursaries and studentships available for postgraduate study.

MA BURSARIES

There are six bursaries to award to applicants for any of the MA
programmes, which include the sociolinguistics MA in Language Society
and Change in Europe.  Each bursary will be to the value of #1,000 and
tenable for one year.

JILL FORBES RESEARCH STUDENTSHIP

There is ONE fully-funded studentship available to suitably qualified
students applying for an M.Phil/Ph.D.  The Studentship will provide a
maintenance grant at the London rate paid by the Research Councils and
is to be awarded in the Summer of 2003.  Fees are waived for both home
and overseas students.

Applicants should have (or expect to have at the end of 2002-3) an MA
or equivalent qualification.

The Studentship is being awarded in commemoration of Professor Jill
Forbes (Queen Mary, 1999-2001).  Preference may be given to candidates
applying to research in one of her fields, namely European
(particularly French) cinema and/or French cultural studies, but
applications for research on topics in linguistics will be given
serious consideration.

Applications, including a completed Queen Mary application form,
references, a substantial piece of written work (about 5,000 words in
English) and a 300-word thesis proposal should be addressed to Sharon
Bernor, School of Modern Languages, Postgraduate Studies Office, Queen
Mary, University of London, LONDON, E1 4NS.

Applicants should apply for admission to the College as a research
student in the normal way and state on the application form that they
wish to be considered for a Queen Mary Studentship. For enquiries
about supervision, please contact the relevant department.

Closing date for applications for bursaries and the studentship is
30th May 2003.
