Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA)

The Departments of Linguistics and Anthropology at the University of
Kansas invite applications for one half-time Graduate Research
Assistantships (20 hours/week), to begin August 21, 2003. The
position is offered for one year, but may be renewed for up to one
additional year.

The successful candidate will work towards a graduate degree in
Linguistics or Anthropology, and the research performed as a GRA will
be a basis for his/her doctoral research. Apart from engaging in his
or her own dissertation research, he/she will contribute to summer
fieldwork and data analysis in the documentation of endangered Altaic
languages in Inner Asia.

Candidates with competence in at least TWO of the following are
particularly encouraged to apply: (1) the relevant languages
(especially Standard Chinese, but also Amdo Tibetan, Turkic or
Mongolic languages), (2) linguistic data annotation and analysis, and
(3) linguistic fieldwork.

Since time to apply to the KU Graduate School is extremely short,
candidates are requested to send an email expressing interest by May
20 to Prof. Arienne M. Dwyer <anthlinguist at ku.edu>. Please include a
short statement on your competence in the above-listed subjects and
languages, and your research interests.

One candidate will be invited to apply for Graduate School admission
in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Kansas.
