Subject:  NLP for language testing

Dear list members,

I intend to write an article about the use of computers in language
testing and was looking for relevant publications. There are a number
of articles, projects etc. which use ''conventional'' programming
technology in order to create language testing applications. However I
was wondering if there are any relevant publications concerning
computational linguistics/HLT/NLP applied to problems of language
testing?

Subject:  concession and adversativity



My doctoral dissertation focuses on the relationships of concession
and adversativity, mainly on their pragmatic, argumentative and
rhetorical functions. I have searched upon the differences between
the English function words "although" and" though" and upon the
pragmatic functions that they may bring into a discourse. I would be
grateful to get any information on reference works related to my
subject, such as books, articles, either printed or in electronic
form, on subjects like "semantics", "concession", "adversativity", in
English, as well as in other languages.

I would also appreciate information about networks, conferences,
symposia or seminars on semantics, syntax and rhetoric in the areas of
concession and adversativity.

In addition, as I am looking for a model to follow in writing my PhD
project description, I would like to ask you where could I find
samples of doctoral project descriptions. So far I have found only
very short ones, and I would like to see how it looks a more detailed
one.
