Rethinking Perspectives Stephen Krashen is visiting the UK on 14th
June 2003 to address a major conference hosted by NALDIC (National
Association of Language Development in the Curriculum) on Bilingual
Education and UK schools: Rethinking Perspectives.

Dr. Stephen Krashen is Professor Emeritus of Education at the
University of Southern California and is best known for his work in
establishing a general theory of second language acquisition, as the
co-founder of the Natural Approach and as the inventor of sheltered
subject matter teaching. His ideas about the difference between
learning and acquisition have been hugely influential in the field of
EAL/EFL for several decades. In the past five years, he has fought to
save whole language and bilingual education in the United States and,
more recently, has been lobbying for ''recreational reading''.

Conference participants will also hear from Viv Edwards Professor of
Language in Education at the University of Reading. She is Director of
the National Centre for Language and Literacy , editor of the
international journal, Language and Education, and has published
widely on teaching and learning in multilingual classrooms.

Stephen Krashen and Viv Edwards will be joined by Terry Lamb, Amy
Thompson, Raymonde Sneddon and others to consider key questions
concerning the development of bilingual education and community
languages in the UK today.

The conference takes place at Imperial College, London and fees for
non-NALDIC members are £85. For further details and booking forms
contact NALDIC at http://www.naldic.org.uk/events.htm
