We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at
http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

Subject: The meaning of 'applied'

For a research project we are asking linguists to answer a web-based
survey on the meaning of the word 'applied' as used both within and
outside of Linguistics. The survey is located at

http://saussure.linguistlist.org/cfdocs/new-website/LL-WorkingDirs/consent.cfm

and should take five to ten minutes to complete. Please do not be put
off by the rather formidable first page, which provides the standard
cautions required in dealing with human subjects. Since the URL is
relatively long you may need to make sure the whole address is
highlighted when you click on it. If clicking doesn't work, block the
whole thing and copy it into your browser's address window. Many
thanks for your help with this.

We need your help!

We are looking for native speakers of American English to take a short
survey in speech perception based in the Department of Linguistics and
Languages at Michigan State University. The survey is very easy and
takes only about 10 minutes. It is done entirely online, so you will
need to be sitting in front of a computer with an Internet connection
and sound capability. Your participation is greatly appreciated.

IT'S EASY! Please, go to the following URL:
