Description:

We seek a faculty colleague to join a high achieving, dynamic, and
collaborative College of Education.  It is our goal to prepare
professionals who will contribute to the positive development of
persons and to the development of effective schools including the
alleviation and prevention of many of today's problems and challenges.
The College and this master's program strive to develop a deep
understanding of and respect for diversity among students and
colleagues.  Therefore, we encourage applicants from professionals who
can help us achieve this goal.

Responsibilities: Teach in the College's TESL program, which includes
a Master's degree program and an added licensure program for
prospective ESL teachers; supervise internships, and advise students
in the TESL program; maintain scholarly productivity in research,
publications, and presentations at professional meetings; obtain
external funding to support research, training, and service activities
in TESL; provide service to the field and profession at local, state,
and national levels; and participate in program, department, College,
and University governance.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in TESL or in a closely related
field from an accredited university; expertise in literacy or
foreign/second language instruction; eligibility for North Carolina
licensure in TESL; a minimum of three years of successful public
school teaching experience with English Language Learners (ELL);
experience working with teachers of ESL students.  In addition, the
following qualifications are preferred: successful teaching experience
at the college or university level; demonstrated ability to conduct
research, provide service, and obtain external funding relevant to
TESL; and evidence of scholarly contributions to TESL education
through research, publications, and presentations at professional
meetings.

The Setting: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a
doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation's
fastest growing metropolitan areas.  It is part of one of the oldest
public university systems in the United States.  UNC Charlotte offers
a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs to over
19,500 culturally diverse students.  The student population will grow
to 25,000 by 2010.

   qualifications to the responsibilities of the position
2. A current and complete curriculum vita

   completed

5. Other supporting materials relevant to the candidate's scholarship
   and teaching, including sample publications; teaching reviews are
   encouraged
