Dear subscribers,

We are sad to report that Simin Karimi is retiring as a Book Review
Editor for the LINGUIST List(LL). For three years, Simin has shared
the book review editing with Terry Langendoen. We are grateful for
those three years of outstanding service and we will miss having her
on the LL crew. Fortunately, Simin is staying on as a member of the
LL Advisory Board.

Replacing Simin Karimi is Sheila Dooley Collberg to whom we extend a
warm welcome. Sheila Dooley Collberg received her Ph.D. in
Linguistics from Lund University in 1991. She has taught at Lund
University, Uppsala University, and University of Auckland, and is now
Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Arizona. In 1994
she did post-doctoral studies in Maori at the Dept. of Maori Studies
in Auckland, and has been a member of the Paratyp Project (Lund
University) since 1995. Her research includes work in the areas of
syntax, typology, and computational linguistics, with special interest
in verb-initial languages and the acquisition of syntax. Her
publications include 'Oblique Subjects in Icelandic Passive
Constructions' (Studia Linguistica 1986) and 'The Preference for Modal
+ Neg: and L2 Perspective Applied to Swedish L1 Children' (Second
Language Research 1994, with Gisela Hkansson). She also headed the
section of contributors on Celtic languages to the Swedish National
Encyclopedia 1989 - 1994. Recently she was one of the organizers of
the Workshop on Syntax of Verb-Initial Languages held at the
University of Arizona. She is currently serving as Program Director
for the proposed Professional Science Masters Degree in Human Language
Technology which is under development at the University of Arizona.

Sincere Regards,

Helen Aristar-Dry & Anthony Aristar
