Description:

The Department of Linguistics, University of Ottawa, invites
applications for a tenure track position in sociolinguistics at the
Assistant Professor -possibly Associate Professor level- commencing
July 1, 2004. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in linguistics,
specializing in the analysis of language variation and change, with
evidence of strong research potential. Applications from candidates
who also have a demonstrated interest in other areas of linguistics
are encouraged. Preference will be given to candidates able to teach
in both English and French at the undergraduate and graduate levels
within a specified period of time.

The University of Ottawa is justly proud of its 150-year tradition of
bilingualism.  Through its Second Language Institute, the University
provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their
second official language.  At the time of tenure, professors are
expected to have the ability to function in a bilingual setting.

Applicants should submit a c.v., representative samples of their
research, and arrange for three (3) letters of recommendation to be
