POSITION: Lecturer in Applied Linguistics
DEPARTMENT: School of Society, Culture and Performance

The Department of Linguistics seeks an Applied Linguist with an
innovative, critical, theoretical perspective on TESOL/TEFL. The
department is an active department with strong interests in general
and applied linguistics. The successful candidate will participate in
teaching primarily in the postgraduate program. In addition the
successful candidate is expected to take an active role in research
and to assist in the development and implementation of the MA
programs.

The successful applicant must have a completed PhD in Linguistics or
Applied Linguistics (TESOL) or be near completion at the time of
appointment. The ability to build good rapport with the students as
well as excellence in teaching and research are essential.

Expertise in research and teaching in TESOL/TEFL is essential.

Additional expertise in one or more of the following area is
desirable: English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific
Purposes, Translation and Language Testing. Previous experience in a
postgraduate Applied Linguistics program, as well as teaching
experience in ESL or EFL, preferably with students from the
Asia-Pacific region is also desirable.

The position is full-time continuing commencing July 2004, subject to
the completion of a satisfactory probation and/or confirmation period
for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation
scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
