Subject:  "Speaking Hispanic" is harmful

The Omaha World Herald today (October 14) has an article on the front
page about a father who has been ordered by a Nebraska judge not to
''speak Hispanic'' to his daughter or risk losing visitation rights.
The judge is quoted as saying ''It's difficult enough to learn the
English language, you know ... and if you put her in a situation where
people aren't communicating in a language that she understands, that's
not fair to the child.''  The article is available online at
