Meeting Description:

For a new profession, the issue of professionalisation is of vital
importance. This has also been reflected in many contributions to the
former Critical Link conferences (http://www.criticallink.org). By
making professionalisation the explicit topic of Critical Link 4, we
wish to give a decisive impetus to the ongoing processes towards this
goal world-wide. Welcome to Stockholm and the conference Critical Link
4, May 20-23, 2004!

The overall theme for the 4th International Conference on Interpreting
in the Community is

''Professionalisation of interpreting in the community''

The organising committee is happy to offer four conference days filled
with a balanced mix of contributions, involving both academic research
and discussions of more practical, professional issues. The programme
will be of interest to all those concerned with interpreting in the
community - to interpreters, interpreter trainers, researchers in
interpreting, interpreting agencies, but also to people working in
various public service sectors, such as health care, courts of justice
and immigration.

The scientific programme features plenary lectures, section papers and
panels, as well as posters. The social programme includes a Welcome
Reception and a Lunch Reception hosted by the City of Stockholm in the
Stockholm City Hall. The Conference Dinner will be a memorable event,
taking place in the museum of the 17th century ship Wasa.

The conference starts on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 13.00 (registration
from 10.00), and ends on Sunday, May 23 at 13.30.
