First Call for Papers

The working languages of the conference will be Russian and English.

Those willing to participate in the conference are requested to send a
short e-mail message, in Russian or in English, no later than January
15, 2004, to the address cogsci04 at s2s.msu.ru. The message must
include:

- the title of the paper
- the author's (authors') full name(s)
- affiliation
- 3 to 5 keywords

The program committee needs these messages in order to have a
preliminary estimate of the number and range of paper
proposals. Decisions on the acceptance of proposed papers will be made
on the basis of the abstracts that must be submitted no later than
March 1, 2004. Please submit the abstract of your paper, in Russian or
in English, by e-mail to the address cogsci04 at s2s.msu.ru as a MS Word
or LaTeX file attached to an e-mail message. The maximal size of an
abstract is 2 pages (single-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 type size),
including illustrations and references. One author cannot participate
in more than two proposed papers. At the beginning of an abstract
please indicate the following pieces of information:

- the title of the paper
- the author(s) information, including:
o full name
o affiliation
o degree or educational status (undergraduate student, graduate
student, Ph.D., etc.)
o postal address
o phone number
o e-mail address
- 3 to 5 keywords
- the preferred form of presentation: oral or poster

The program committee will inform the authors of its decisions on the
acceptance of proposals by June 1, 2004. The accepted abstracts will
be published by the beginning of the conference. Publication of
selected presentations is planned after the conference.

Meeting Description:

GURT 2004 will focus on syntax, semantics, and computational
linguistics, as pursued from a comparative or cross-linguistic
perspective.  We are particularly interested in submissions in the
following areas:

* The syntax and semantics of clause types
* Syntactic variation across varieties of English
* The internal structure of the noun phrase
* Negation, negative polarity, and negative concord
* Tense and aspect in formal and/or computational semantics
* Microvariation in the left periphery of the clause
* Linguistic typology for machine translation

These areas are of special interest to faculty and students at
Georgetown, and we anticipate that there will be special sessions
devoted to them.
