Job description for Computational Linguist, Sept. 2003

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, Department of Linguistics, University of
Washington. A tenure-track appointment is intended in the area of
computational linguistics with primary research specialization in
natural language processing theory. Duties will include:

- Building a new computational linguistics specialization within the
  Linguistics Department;
- Teaching undergraduate and research courses in topics such as
  machine translation, summarization, parsing, information retrieval
  and lexical semantics;
- Teaching non-computational courses including introduction to
  linguistics and advanced courses in syntax or semantics; background
  in Asian or Romance linguistics desireable;
- Supervision of graduate students;
- Forging ties with local industry involved in natural language
  processing.


Applicants should have the Ph.D. degree by the time the position
begins. Applications, including a curriculum vitae, statement of
research and teaching interests, and three letters of recommendation,
