Conference on Africa 2004.
Perspectives on Yoruba History and Culture
The University of Texas at Austin: March 26-28 2004.
Prof. Toyin Falola convenes the conference.

We are pleased to announce a three-day conference centered on the Yoruba to
review the state of knowledge, the various advances already made, the
connections with comparative and Diaspora history and linguistic examination of
aspects of the language. The conference

1.	The first panel Sociolinguistics of Yoruba.
This panel welcomes original abstracts on the social linguistic aspect of
Yoruba language. Preference will be given to those abstracts that address:
Yoruba language and Identity, Yoruba language and culture, and Yoruba language
and social stratification/ relationship.

2. 	Phonetics and phonology of Yoruba Language.
This second panel invites abstracts on the phonetics and phonology of Yoruba.
Only e-mail submission of abstracts will be accepted. They must be submitted as
attachments to an e-mail message. They may not be contained within the body of
a message. The body of the message should include all information listed in 1-5 below.

Please use 'Yoruba linguistics Abstract' as the Subject header.
Abstracts must be submitted in either Word document or PDF format. No other
formats will be accepted. We will acknowledge the receipt of abstracts by
e-mail. Electronic submissions of abstracts and all queries should be directed
to agwuele at mail.utexas.edu and copied to annabell at mail.utexas.edu

The deadline for submitting abstract is November 1, 2003.
Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously. Notification of acceptance will be sent
out by December 2003.
