TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN FRENCH LINGUISTICS OR ETHNOLINGUISTICS

The University of Windsor's French studies programme invites
applications for a tenure-track position in French linguistics or
ethnolinguistics, with specialisation in Franco-Canadian dialectology,
at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 1, 2004.  This
position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D.  in French linguistics or
ethnolinguistics, by the date of appointment, with expertise in the
required areas; must show evidence of strong teaching and research
ability and must possess native or near-native fluency in spoken and
written French.  A good working knowledge of the second official
language would be desirable.

Duties will include teaching in the following areas: introduction to
linguistics, advanced undergraduate courses in dialectology and
courses in French language training: grammar, phonetics, oral
expression and writing skills.

Through its variety of course offerings in the three-year general,
four-year honours and combined honours degree programmes, the French
programme at Windsor provides for the needs of all its students. The
programme consists of courses in the language, literature and cultur e
of France and other Francophone regions of the world, as well as of
2nd, 3rd and 4th year courses in theoretical and applied
linguistics. Our students may also participate in exchange programmes
with the Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis and the Université du

The City of Windsor is situated in an officially designated bi-lingual
area, settled by francophones 300 years ago. Given the area's
francophone population, Windsor has several French language primary
and secondary schools.
