Vocabulary knowledge and use: measurements and applications
Venue: UWE, Bristol

Professors David Malvern and Brian Richards (Reading)
Professor Paul Meara (Wales/Swansea)
Professor Paul Nation (Wellington/New Zealand)

Aims The seminar aims at bringing together researchers from different
strands within Applied Linguistics, with a view to exchange ideas
about the best ways to measure vocabulary knowledge and use and to
evaluate how these measures can be applied in different
contexts. These contexts will include research in L1 and L2
acquisition, bilingualism, stylistics, literary studies, early
language impairment, aphasia, Alzheimer's disease, etc. The seminar
will be a two-day event, with two parallel sessions, grouped according
to themes. We invite abstracts on vocabulary knowledge and use for
oral presentation or poster presentation. Abstracts with a description
of the research questions, methodology and results of the project are
to be submitted in electronic form to the address given below. Format:
Abstracts must be presented in electronic form (Word 1998 or later
versions of Word) and must not be longer than 400 words. The names of
authors (+ affiliations and contact addresses) must be given at the
end of the abstract, on a separate page. Abstracts will be reviewed
anonymously by the Academic Committee of the conference.
