We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Dear Linguists,

I'm presently working on a survey about Portuguese as Foreign/Second
Language in general. I would like to know about research projects,
publications, people working in the field and places where we may find
expertise on the subject.

I will sumarize all the info and post to the list as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Ida Rebelo

I will, for the first time, be teaching a course called Romance
Philology in January. It is a required comparative historical
linguistics course for graduate students in French, Spanish, and
Italian, most of whom are doing their degrees in literature and have
as background a course in Phonetics (as much pronunciation as anything
else) and possibly the structure of one of the languages. They will
not have had much Latin if any. I am interested in knowing what others
have used as a text and also will be grateful for suggestions on
approaches, pitfalls, etc.

Merci, grazie, gracias,
Margaret Winters
