Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers,

As many of you have already found out, this year we have thought of
yet another wonderful, exciting way to thank our generous donors.
How, you may ask...why, through LINGUIST List Brain Teasers!

Each week we will unveil a brain teaser in the form of a riddle or
question, and everyone who donates $25.00 or more gets a chance to
answer this question and win a wonderful prize donated to us by one of
our supporting publishers!

Two weeks ago, the question was:

*"What is the strangest TRUE linguistic fact that you have
	  encountered?"

Congratulations to an anonymous winner, who astounded us all with this
fact:

*"Subjects of negative sentences in Kawaiisu are all accusative."

Our anonymous winner has won a one-year subscription to Mouton de
Gruyter's journal, Linguistics!

AND, last week's question was a morphology problem:

	mato buol "your mother runs"
        baku keol "his dog eats"
        matil seol "my mother plays"
        bua "I run"
        bue "you run"
        apro buol "your father runs"
        see "you play"
        bakil seol "my dog plays"
        kea "I eat"
        apru keol "his father eats"
        matu buol "his mother run"
        foa "I walk"
        foe "you walk"
        bako buol "your dog runs"

How would you say "My father walks"?

Congratulations to a winner who preferred to remain anonymous, who
correctly answered our attempt at holiday humor:

	*"april fool!"

Our winner will receive a one-year subscription to Mouton de Gruyter's
journal, Intercultural Pragmatics!1

YOU TOO CAN BE A WINNER!

This week's question is:

The following is a transcription of the numbers 1 - 10 in a language:

ngot, nish, nswe, nyw, nyanen, ngodwadso, no'ek, shwadso, zhak, mdadso

Can you guess the language family? Extra points if you can guess the
actual language...

If you think you may know the answer, you can win this fabulous prize
generously donated by Cambridge University Press:

*A one year subscription to one of the following journals:

	Annual Review of Applied Linguistics
	Applied Pyscholinguistics
	Bilingualism: Language and Cognition
	English Language and Linguistics
	English Today
	Journal of Child Language
	Journal of French Language Studies
	Journal of Linguistics
Journal of the International Phonetic Association
	Language in Society
	Language Teaching
	Language Variation and Change
	Natural Language Engineering
	Phonology
	ReCALL
	Studies in Second Language Acquisition

HURRY! This prize will only be offered through Wednesday April 14, 2004!

All winners will be announced on the LINGUIST List.

Thank you again for your generous support!

Subject: How to Donate...

This Year the LINGUIST List hope to raise $60,000. This money will go
to help keep the List running, by supporting all of our Student
Editors for the coming year.

There are many ways to donate to LINGUIST!

You can donate right now using our secure credit card form, at:
http://www.linguistlist.org/donate.html

You can also pledge right now and pay later, at:
http://www.linguistlist.org/pledge.html

For all information on donating, including information on how to
donate by check, money order, or wire transfer, please visit:
http://www.linguistlist.org/donation.html

ALREADY PLEDGED?
If you have already pledged to LINGUIST and would now like to pay by
credit card, please go to:

http://linguistlist.org/creditcard-general.html

and select 'PAY PREVIOUS PLEDGE' as the Type of Payment from the
dropdown list provided.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number
is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer.
This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the
value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
