ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER POSITION IN MODERN ENGLISH
LANGUAGE AND LINGUISTICS WITHIN THE EUROPEAN STUDIES PROGRAMME

The Department of Modern languages, English section, invites
applications for a tenured position in Modern English language and
linguistics at the Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer level.

In addition to courses in literature, language and linguistics, and
civilization studies, the Department offers a BA programme in European
studies in co-operation with the Department of Sociology and Political
Science and the Department of History. The programme is currently
under development, and pending approval an MA programme will also be
offered as of academic year 2006-7.

Applicants for the position should have a completed PhD in English
language and linguistics. Successful applicants will be responsible
for the English language and linguistics component of the European
studies programme, and will be expected to participate actively in its
future development. Applicants are expected to provide proof of a
research profile and expertise that include, among other fields,
language policy and planning, issues of English as a global language,
and globalization processes.

In assessing candidates, weight will be placed on pedagogical skills.
Applicants who have been short-listed will be invited for interview,
and will be asked to demonstrate their pedagogical ability, usually by
means of a trial lecture. The person appointed will be jointly
responsible for academic matters together with other academic staff in
the Department. He or she will be required to participate in teaching
activities in accordance with the relevant curriculum, and to assist
in further developing the teaching programme, including that of
continuing education. He or she will be expected to supervise masters
students, research fellows, and doctoral candidates in his/her
discipline. He or she must agree to undertake administrative work as
part of his/her duties. Newly-employed staff in academic positions who
are not already fluent in a Scandinavian language must, within three
years of appointment, obtain and document fluency in Norwegian or
another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three
in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided at the Department of
Language- and Communication Studies.

more than 10 such submissions). A description of all the academic work
that the applicant feels is most significant and that he/she feels the
evaluation committee should pay particular attention to. A list of all
publications with bibliographical references.
