Description:

UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY - The Department of Germanic, Slavic and East
Asian Studies invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable
assistant professorial position in Chinese, beginning July 1, 2004 and
ending June 30, 2005. This position is being created as part of the
major commitment, by both the University and the Government of
Alberta, to the study of second language learning reflected in the
recent creation of the Language Research Centre. The successful
candidate will hold, or be near completion of, a PhD, and will have
native or near-native command of Chinese.  Desired qualifications
include expertise in the field of second language acquisition or
related fields.  Knowledge of a second East Asian language will be
considered a major asset.

Applications, to be received by June 1, 2004 or until the position is
filled, should include a cover letter, an updated curriculum vitae,
information concerning teaching effectiveness and transcripts relating
to the candidate's graduate studies. Applicants should also arrange
for three confidential letters of reference or their placement dossier
