Meeting Description:

The UCLA Department of Linguistics is please to be hosting the 12th
meeting of the Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association. Abstracts
are invited for talks and posters in any area of the formal
linguistics of Austronesian languages.

We are pleased to announce that the UCLA Department of Linguistics
will host the 12th meeting of the Austronesian Formal Linguistics
Association.

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for
discussion), or for a poster session. Talks and posters may be in any
area of the formal linguistics of Austronesian languages.

SPECIAL SESSION
There is the possibility of a special session, possibly after the main
conference. If the special session proves feasible, a separate call
will be issued for it.

ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS
Submissions are limited to 1 individual and 1 joint abstract per
author. (These will not count towards any submission limit for the
special session.)

Abstract text should be single-spaced, at least 12-point font, on one
page ( US Letter or A4) with 1-inch or 2.5-cm margins on all sides. An
additional page for data, figures, and references may be
included. Authors' names should not appear on abstracts, but the
abstract should include a title.

Abstracts should be submitted by email, as PDF or plain-text
attachments, to afla12 at ucla.edu by December 1, 2004. Use the subject
heading 'abstract' and include in the body of the email the following
information:

-title of the abstract
-author name(s)
-affiliation(s)
-mailing address
-e-mail address
-area of linguistics (e.g., phonology, semantics...)
-whether you are willing for the abstract to be considered as a poster
submission
-whether you are willing for the abstract to be considered as a talk
submission
- (if you would like your abstract to be considered both as a poster
and as a talk, please state your preference)

Notification of acceptance will be by February 1, 2005.

AIMS & SCOPE

The Journal of Cognitive Science (JCS) is published biannually ny
Institute for Cognitive Science at Seoul National University, located
in Seoul, Korea. Its main concern is to publish research articles of
highest quality and significance within the disciplines of cognitive
science, including, but not limited to, philisiphy, psychology,
linguistics, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, aesthetics,
anthropology, and education, insofar as it is deemed to be of interest
to those who pursue the study of mind. In particular, we would like to
encourage submissions that cross the traditional disciplinary
boundaries.

The JCS showcases quality research, improves the worldwide exchange of
ideas, and illustrates the interdisciplinary work that is the hallmark
of the cognitive science field. Contributions may be in the form of
articles, brief reports, reviews, or squibs.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All submissions must be in English, clearly written and in sufficient
detail to allow the referees to assess the merits of the work. Papers
should be no longer than 5500 words, and should conform th the JCS
style guide or one of the popular style guides, such as the MLA, APA
and IEEE formats. Papers will be received and processed any time as
promptly as possible.

Authors should send both an electronic copy (MS Word) and a hardcopy
(N. B., a .pdf or .ps file may replace the hardcopy) to JCS.
