Description:

'Maitre de langue' (ML), i.e. junior lecturer in (applied) English phonology.
The variety of English taught is British English. The basic qualification is to
have completed at least two years of postgraduate studies - i.e. one year of
doctoral work - in English phonology. This is a one-year appointment, renewable
for a second year. The net monthly salary is approximately 1600,00 euros. 

N.B.  A candidate who has obtained a doctorate in English phonology and who
would like to make a career in the French university system can use an ML
appointment as a first step -  gaining teaching experience in the French system,
improving his/her French - before applying for 'qualification' at the beginning
of his/her second year and appointment as lecturer ('Maitre de conférence').

Courses :
The syllabus covers the following points :
- phonemic transcription
- articulatory description of English phonemes 
- graphophonemics  (i.e. spelling to sounds)
- word-stress
- sentence-stress, rhythm, weak & strong forms
- intonation.
