Meeting Description:

The 9th Conference on Laboratory Phonology will be held at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, hosted by the Department
of Linguistics and the Beckman Institute. The conference theme of
''Change in Phonology'' addresses the development of an individual's
phonological knowledge and the development of phonological systems in
languages over time through a set of six sub-themes related to
variation and change in phonology.

The organizers of the 9th Conference on Laboratory Phonology (LabPhon
9) are pleased to announce the availability of two small grants to
support the participation of US minority students in LabPhon 9. These
grants are intended to cover registration and travel expenses. To
qualify, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the USA
currently enrolled as students at a US institution and members of an
underrepresented minority.  Priority will be given to qualified
candidates who (a) can demonstrate insufficient financial support from
their home institution to attend LabPhon 9, and (b) have submitted an
abstract which has been accepted for oral or poster presentation.

Applicants who wish to attend the conference but will not be
presenting a paper should explain how attending this conference
relates to their academic goals. Selection will be on the basis of
economic need and potential contribution to the conference.

The organizers of the 9th Conference on Laboratory Phonology (LabPhon
9) are also pleased to announce the availability of one or two small
grants to partially support the participation of international
scholars from economically disadvantaged countries in LabPhon 9. These
grants are intended to cover registration and (partial) travel
expenses. To qualify, applicants must be affiliated with an
institution from an academically underrepresented country and document
insufficient support from their home institution. Preference will be
given to applicants who submitted an abstract which has been accepted
for oral or poster presentation at LabPhon 9. Applicants who will not
be presenting a paper should justify the relevance of the conference
to their professional development. Selection will be on the basis of
economic need and potential contribution to the conference.

Applicants should send an email letter of interest to the LabPhon 9
organizers at labphon9 at uiuc.edu no later than March 1.
