Linguistic Sub-field: Discourse Analysis

Meeting Description:

IADA 2004-''Theoretical Approaches to Dialogue Analysis'' invites
abstracts of 200-300 words for 20-minute papers on all issues related
to the various disciplinary or interdisciplinary approaches to
dialogue analysis (e.g., Conversation Analysis; Dialogue Grammar;
Discourse Analysis; Grounded Theory; Speech Act and Inference Theory;
Theory of Dialogic Action Games). The study of dialogue analysis has
benefited a great deal from the contributions of many different
disciplines, such as linguistics, philosophy, anthropology, and
sociology. The productivity of this variety of input can be seen in
the several methodological traditions, including a speech act
theoretic approach to dialogue, discourse analysis, conversation
analysis, among others. The upcoming workshop of the International
Association for Dialogue Analysis is bringing together approximately
40 international scholars to present their work on the theme of
'Theoretical Approaches to Dialogue Analysis'.

Plenary Speakers:

Karin Aijmer, Göteborg University
Lawrence N. Berlin, Northeastern Illinois University
Anita Fetzer, University of Lueneburg
Franz Hundsnurscher, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster
Douglas Macbeth, Ohio State University
