The Universiteit Leiden Centre for Linguistics (ULCL) offers five PhD
positions.


ULCL has vacancies for five PhD students per 1 September 2004, in the
following areas:

Application number 4-025:  2 PhD students (AIO positions)
For linguistic research in any of the fields covered by the research
programme of ULCL. In particular, applications in the fields of formal
linguistics, language use and language variation (both diachronic and
synchronic) are invited. For the research programme, see ULCL's web
page

Application number 4-025a:  2 PhD students (AIO positions)
for the project "Word order and morphological marking in Bantu
languages", funded by NWO. See ULCL's web site for further
information.

Application number 4-025b:  1 PhD student (scholarship position)
for a syntactic project, funded by a scholarship made available by
Elsevier for the journal Lingua.


All positions are embedded in the research and training programme of
the Universiteit Leiden Centre for Linguistics, which is part of the
National Dutch Graduate School for Linguistics, LOT. PhD students are
appointed for a maximum of four years in order to complete a PhD
dissertation. Candidates are expected to have finished their
first-degree training (MA or BA) in linguistics, a language programme,
psychology or mathematics.

Deadline for application is March 15, 2004. To apply, send a
preliminary research proposal (in English; max. 3 pages), CV, and
further documentation (reference letters, representative articles, MA
or BA theses) to the address below. Indicate clearly for which of the
positions listed above the application is intended by noting the full
application number on the research proposal and the cover letter.
