Meeting Description:

The Asian Translators' Forum is a regional conference held once every
three years under the auspices of the Federation Internationale des
Traducteurs [FIT].  FIT Fourth Asian Translators' Forum, co-hosted by
the Translators' Association of China and Tsinghua University, will be
held at Tsinghua University on October 29-31, 2004. About 300
participants from all over the world will attend the forum.

The theme and sub-themes of the forum are as follows:
Theme: Translation, Cognition and Interdisciplinary Studies

Panels:
1. Translation and Cognition
2. Teaching of Translation and Interpretation
3. Translation and Mass Media
4. Translation and Intercultural Communication
5. Translation Corpus and Machine Translation

Workshops:
1. Western Translation Theories in China: Application and Critique
2. Translation and the Formation of Chinese Modernity
Roundtable Discussion:  Translation as Regional Practices
Working Languages: English and Chinese.

Preliminary Schedule: The Forum will take place from October 29 to
October 31 2004. During the Forum, international authoritative
scholars in the field of translation studies (including the President
of the Federation Internationale des Traducteurs [FIT]) will be
invited to give keynote speeches. Besides the regular sessions, a tour
to the Great Wall is also included. During the forum, an international
exhibition of books on translation and interdisciplinary studies will
be held. Presses and publishing houses are welcomed to place
publications on the exhibition. Reservation is required. Please

Submission of Abstracts:
All abstracts (600-1000 words) that are related to the sub-themes of
the Forum are welcomed. With the abstracts, the postal address,
telephone number and e-mail address should be forwarded. The deadline
for the submission of abstracts is April 10, 2004. Official letters of
invitation will be sent before May 10, 2004.

Theoretical Linguistics, will be held at Bar Ilan University, Ramat
Gan, on June 23-24, 2004. Submissions are invited for papers
presenting high quality, previously unpublished research in all areas
of theoretical linguistics, including Language Acquisition, Language
Disorders, Psycho- and Neurolinguistics.  IATL publishes on-line
proceedings in which all accepted and alternate papers appear.
