The Conference is intended as a forum of discussion for linguists and
researchers in areas such as Linguistics, Applied Linguistics,
Literary Studies or Translation, among other disciplines, who are
involved in the use or study of Internet, either as a research or
teaching resource or as a linguistic phenomenon in itself.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Dear Colleagues,

We are organising the 2nd International Conference on Internet and
Language. This is intended as a forum of discussion for linguists and
researchers in areas such as Linguistics, Applied Linguistics,
Literary Studies or Translation, among other disciplines, who are
involved in the use or study of Internet, either as a research or
teaching resource or as a linguistic phenomenon in itself. We are
expecting papers in relation to the panels listed below:

- Internet and Literary Studies
- Internet and Translation
- Internet and Language Use / Linguistics and digital genres
- Internet and Languages for Specific Purposes
- Internet and Foreign Language Teaching / Second Language Acquisition

Dates

The Conference is to take place 14-16th July, 2005.
Deadline for receipt of full papers is September 30th, 2004.
Notification of acceptance will be sent by November 30th, 2004.

Submissions

We welcome original papers written in English, Spanish and Catalan,
which are the official languages of the conference, although papers in
other languages may be considered depending on their interest in
relation to the topic of the conference. Presentations will last 20
minutes with five minutes for discussion.

Our intention is to receive full papers by September 2004 so as to be
able to edit Conference Proceedings and then distribute them during
the conference in July 2005. Papers should not exceed 3000 words with
abstract and bibliography included. Guidelines for publication can be

Those interested should send two printed copies and one electronic
copy (RTF format on a floppy disc) to:

CONFERENCE FEE

Participants in the conference presenting a paper are to pay a fee of
150 euros. This fee includes registration and a copy of the Conference
Proceedings edited in two CDs, which will be distributed during the
conference.  Other participants attending the conference are to pay 80
euros.

REGISTRATION FEE FOR THE CONFERENCE

Participants in the Conference presenting a paper are to pay a fee of
150 euros. This fee includes registration and a copy of the Conference
Proceedings edited in two volumes in CD format. Undergraduate
student(tm)s fee is 50 euros.  The payment of the registration fee
will be done through a bank transfer, no later then two weeks after
the notification of the acceptance of the paper, to BANCAJA (in
Catalan Bancaixa):

The 28th GLOW Colloquium will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in
March/April 2005. The GLOW Main session (free topic) will take place
from March 31 to April 2, preceded by three workshops on March 29 and
30.
March 29: Symposium on the Philosophy of Linguistics
March 30: Synchrony meets Diachrony in Phonology
March 30: Semitic Syntax.

Abstracts are invited to the GLOW main session (March 31 - April 2,
2005) on any topic in generative grammar (phonology, morphology,
syntax and semantics).

Invited speakers: Irene Heim (MIT), Howard Lasnik (University of
Maryland College Park).

The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2004. (Note change from
previous years!).

Abstracts should be sent anonymously as virus-free attached files (the
name(s) should be clearly mentioned in the email only) to
glow05 at lettres.unige.ch, in PDF format.

Only electronic submissions will be considered.

Upon acceptance, authors will be further asked to submit a
camera-ready original abstract with their name, address and
affiliation.

IMPORTANT!
Abstracts may not exceed two pages of text with at least a one-inch
margin on all four sides (measured on A4 paper) and must employ a font
not smaller than 12 point. Each page may include a maximum of 50 lines
of text. Abstracts may include an extra page for references (not
examples), but this third page will not be published in the Spring
2005 newsletter.

One symposium and two workshops will precede the main session. There
are separate Calls for Papers for the Syntax workshop (Semitic Syntax)
and the Phonology workshop (Synchrony and Diachrony in Phonology)
(both will be held on April 30).

The Symposium on the Philosophy of Linguistics (invited speakers:
Michael Devitt (CUNY), Paul Horwich (CUNY), Stephen Neale (Rutgers),
Francois Recanati (CNRS), Stephen Schiffer (NYU) and Barry Smith (SUNY
Buffalo) will be held on April 29.
