We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Dear Linguists,

I would be very grateful for any hints as to publications, conference
proceedings or reasearch on the ellipis of articles in English,
e.g. ''the sun, moon and earth''. This also includes cross-sentential
ellipis, such as ''The roof of the house was in bad condition. Black
tiles were falling off...'' I.e. ''the black tiles'' (or maybe not?).

Best of summer to all (in the northern hemisphere),

I am a student, and am a class short in linguistics for entrance into
the graduate program I need to get into. However, I work full-time
and there is not a linguistic class in this city that fits my time
frame, thus I'm looking for an online course or distance education
class. I need a course in either Phonetics or a course such as
Introduction to Sociolinguistics. Do you have any ideas?

Debbie Brasby
