The 24th West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics (WCCFL 24) will
be held on March 18-20, 2005, at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver,
Canada.

                     FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

   The 24th West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics

We invite abstracts for twenty-minute talks with a ten-minute
discussion on any aspect of theoretical linguistics.  This year, there
will be a Special Session on `Interfaces in the Grammar'.  Abstracts
on the interface between any modules of the grammar and its
implications for the architecture of the grammar are invited.

Mark Steedman (Edinburgh)
Anna Szabolcsi (NYU)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:

Abstracts must be at most one page long on a letter-size sheet (8''1/2
by 11'') with one-inch margins and typed in at least 11-point font.
An optional second page is permitted for data and references.
Abstracts must be anonymous.

Submissions are limited to 1 individual and 1 joint abstract per
author.

Abstracts must be submitted in one of the following formats:

PDF attachment
PS  attachment
hard copy (only if absolutely necessary)

We strongly encourage electronic submissions, which should be sent to
the WCCFL 24 e-mail address:

wccfl24 at sfu.ca

Please use 'Abstract' as the Subject header and include the
information in (1) - (6), which should constitute the body of the
message. Please make sure that all fonts are embedded.

Meeting Description:

The 28th GLOW Colloquium will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in
March/April 2005. The GLOW Main session (free topic) will take place
from March 31 to April 2, preceded by three workshops on March 29 and
30.

March 29: Symposium on the Philosophy of Linguistics
March 30: Synchrony meets Diachrony in Phonology
March 30: Semitic Syntax.

Abstracts are invited to the GLOW main session (March 31 - April 2,
2005) on any topic in generative grammar (phonology, morphology,
syntax and semantics).

Invited speakers: Irene Heim (MIT), Howard Lasnik (University of
Maryland College Park).

The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2004. (Note change from
previous years!).

Abstracts should be sent anonymously as virus-free attached files (the
name(s) should be clearly mentioned in the email only) to
glow05 at lettres.unige.ch, in PDF format. Only electronic submissions
will be considered.

Abstracts may not exceed two pages of text with at least a one-inch
margin on all four sides (measured on A4 paper) and must employ a font
not smaller than 12 point. Each page may include a maximum of 50 lines
of text. Abstracts may include an extra page for references (not
examples), but this third page will not be published in the Spring
2005 GLOW newsletter.

Upon acceptance, authors will be further asked to submit a
camera-ready original abstract with their name, address and
affiliation.

A symposium on the Philosophy of Linguistics and two workshops will
precede the main session. The symposium will be held on March 29 and
the two workshops on March 30. There are separate Calls for Papers for
the Syntax workshop (Semitic Syntax) and the Phonology workshop
(Synchrony and Diachrony in Phonology).
