Description:
	
The Department of Applied Linguistics at the National Autonomous
University of Mexico announces the opening of a full time position at
the level of senior lecturer in applied linguistics, for the 2005-2006
academic year, potentially renewable.

The successful applicant must hold a Ph D in linguistics or applied
linguistics, show evidence of considerable teaching skills at the
graduate level, and have an active research profile. (S)he should also
be able to direct graduate student research. The position requires
functional proficiency in Spanish.

Duties will include (a) conducting research in the area of language
evaluation and language acquisition, and directing graduate student
research, (b) teaching courses in the MA in Applied Linguistics
program, and (c) participating with a leading position in research
involving graduate students and other staff members, which aims at the
consolidation of a research group in the Department.

In addition, the successful applicant will be required to apply for
membership to the National System of Researchers (SNI) in the first
call for applications after being hired.

Salary and fringe benefits correspond to those of a Profesor de
Carrera Titular A ($11 465.00 m.n, approximately US$ 1,000 at the
current exchange rate), plus an additional percentage of the base
salary (45% to 85%) as part of the University's program of recognition
of the productivity of the academic staff (PAIPA). The specific
percentage will depend on the academic background, expertise and
publications of the successful candidate.

The position will be occupied starting in October 2004, and it will
be, initially, for one year, with potential for contract renewal.

The Applied Linguistics Department conducts research mainly on the
areas of second language acquisition, discourse analysis and
pragmatics, language and culture, course design and self-access
learning. It participates actively in the graduate Linguistics Program
at UNAM, which offers an MA in Hispanic Linguistics, an MA in Applied
Linguistics and a PhD in Linguistics. The Department is part of the
Language Center, which offers language courses in 15 languages and a
training course for foreign language teachers.
