Location: University of Roma TRE, Rome, Italy
Contact: Paola Pietrandrea

Meeting URL: http://host.uniroma3.it/dipartimenti/linguistica/

Linguistic Sub-field: General Linguistics

Meeting Description:

The purpose of the meeting is to foster a better comparative
understanding of the nature of verbal and signed languages through a
confrontation between specialists of both verbal and signed
languages. Special attention will be devoted to the methodology and
analytic procedures employed in both fields of investigation. The
ultimate aim of the colloquium is to favour the definition of shared
theoretical constructs and methodologies for the study of both classes
of codes. On such common grounds, the investigation of signed
languages may possibly provide new insights for the understanding of
verbal languages and viceversa.

The colloquium is on a strict invited-communication basis. A round
table on application and pedagogical aspects of signed languages will
close the colloquium.
