Meeting Description:

"Aspects of foreign words/loanwords in the world's languages" the
multi-faceted nature of language policies that aim to standardize and
revive language'
The National Institute of Japanese Language 11th International Symposium
March 21, 23-24, 2004, Tokyo, Japan

This is a three-day symposium that is part of the annual international
series of symposiums on pertinent languages issues organized by the
National Institute of Japanese Language in Tokyo, Japan.

This year's symposium brings together a number of experts on loanwords
and language policymakers from various parts of the world to discuss
the current situation on the use of loanwords in various language
communities across the world.

The aim is to promote a better understanding of the unique problems
that each language community faces and to consider future directions
that may be taken to resolve the problems.

The schedule of the three-day program is as follows:

Day 1	21st March 2004 (Sunday)
"Aspects of loanwords in languages throughout the world'

Day 2	23rd March 2004 (Tuesday)
"The current status of loanword usage in various countries'

Day 3	24th March 2004 (Wednesday)
"On the structural aspects of loanwords and the language policies
revolving around loanword usage'

The list of speakers includes Professor Suzanne Romaine (Oxford
University), David, P.B. Massamba (University of Dar Es Salaam),
Gudrun Kvaran (University of Iceland), Gyuen Thi Bich Ha (Foreign
Trade University, Hanoi), Nam Ki-Sim (National Academy of the Korean
Language), Feng Zhiwei (KAIST), Kai Mutsuro (National Institute for
Japanese Language).

the days on which they would like to attend the symposium.
