The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Description:

The graduate program "Sentence Types: Variation and Interpretation"
(Graduiertenkolleg "Satzarten: Variation und Interpretation") at the
University of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) invites applications for two
postdoctoral positions, one in syntax/typology and one in
semantics/pragmatics.

The graduate program was founded in April 2001 and receives its
funding from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the German
national research foundation. The program combines several areas of
linguistics and establishes interdisciplinary relations with the
neighboring disciplines cognitive psychology and neuroscience. There
are currently fourteen PhD students working on topics in syntax,
typology, semantics and pragmatics. Information about the projects of
the program can be found on the internet under

http://www.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/FB/fb10/grad_koll

in both German and English.

The role of the postdocs is to facilitate cross-discipline doctoral
research. Postdocs will be expected to coordinate and support
dissertation projects in more than one of the sub-disciplines of the
program. In addition, candidates are expected to teach in at least one
of the project areas as well as organize courses, workshops and
seminars within the graduate program.

The first postdoctoral position is reserved for "Syntax/Typology"
research. Applicants for this position should have significant
expertise in both the theory of syntax and in descriptive language
typology. This position is available from April 2004.

The second postdoctoral position is reserved for
"Semantics/Pragmatics" research. Again applicants for this position
should have significant expertise in both formal semantics and
pragmatics. This position is available from June 2004.

Both positions are available for two years and cannot be extended,
command of German is required.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a statement of research
interests and up to three representative publications by March 26,
2004 to the Head of the graduate program
