Paris, France
June 18 to June 20, 2004

CONFERENCE AIM

The conference New Aspects of Compositionality is to take place at the
University of Paris-Sorbonne and at the Ecole Normale Supérieure,
France, from June 18 to June 20, 2004. It continues an earlier
conference in Düsseldorf.

Compositionality is a key feature of structured representational
systems, be they linguistic, mental or neuronal. A system of
representations is called compositional just in case the semantic
values of complex representations are determined by the semantic
values of their parts.

The conference brings together internationally renowned scholars from
various disciplines of the cognitive sciences, including philosophers,
psychologists, linguists, computer scientists and neuroscientists. The
speakers will address the issue of compositionality from very
different perspectives. It is the aim of the conference to further the
exchange of views on compositionality across the disciplines and to
explore the implications and condition of compositionality as a
property of representational systems in the study of language, mind
and brain.

The conference is the result of cooperation between the Institut
Jean-Nicod, the University of Paris-Sorbonne, the Ecole Normale
Superieure in France and Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf in
Germany. It is supported by the RESCIF.
