Dear Linguist friends,

I'm going to teach a course on discourse analysis next semester. I've
noticed that discourse analysis is a subject that covers such a wide
area and touches on so many related disciplines. I wonder if anyone
would please recommend textbooks that covers enough important topics
in discourse analysis for beginners. And I would appreciate if anyone
would like to share your thoughts on the important topics we should
cover in such an introductory course on discourse analysis.

I will gather all the answers and post the summary so that it could be
useful to other instructors.
