The North West Centre for Linguistics is delighted to announce the
NWCL Research Training Programme Autumn 2004

6 - 10 September 2004

University of Manchester


Includes:

-A week of courses on theoretical and applied linguistics and
 linguistic research methodology.
-Two Guest lectures
-Poster Session
-Numerous Social Events


Week long courses in:

- Morphology
- Language Acquisition
- Historical Linguistics
- Instrumental analysis of spoken data


Afternoon sessions:

- Statistics for linguistics
- Using databases in linguistics
- Using CHILDES
- Using historical data
- Conference skills

Student poster session:

Students are invited to submit a poster presenting an aspect of their
research.  Posters can be on any aspect of theoretical or applied
linguistics and will be displayed during the poster session on Tuesday
7 September.  There will be space for 15 posters in total.  The two
sumissions judged by the NWCL panel to be the best will each receive a
prize of a book voicher worth 350 UKP.  For more information, see the NWCL

Student sponsorhip available:

Thanks to BAAL, LAGB, and the Philological Society, we can offer
sponsorship of two students from UK institutions who attend the
Programme.  Up to 300 UKP is available per student to cover travel
and accommodation.  There is also additional funding available as
smaller contributions towards travel and accommodation to students
from NWCL institutions.  See the website for more information on how
to apply for all types of sponsorship.

Deadline for sponsorship applications: 20th July 2004


Registration fees:

The full programme (morning and afternoon sessions) costs 20 UKP for
students from NWCL institutions, and 25 UKP for all other students.
It is also possible to regsiter for single afternoon sessions, at a
cost of 3.50 UKP per session for students fron NWCL institutions and
5 UKP for all other students.
