Meeting Description:

TELL 2005 is an interdisciplinary conference aiming to promote the exchange of
research findings among scholars and graduate students in the fields and related
fields of Teaching of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature.  The conference
theme for this year is Reflections on Globalization and Localization in the
Teaching of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature in EFL Contexts.

Conference Objectives and Theme:
The ongoing process of globalization has not only led to a rapid expansion of
the territorial boundaries of English, but also made the teaching and learning
of the languages more complex than ever before, particularly in the study of
English as a second or foreign language.  In conjunction with these issues have
been generated by globalization and the rapid development of information
technology, including:

1. Globalization and localization in English Network
2. Globalization and localization in English Instruction
3. Globalization and localization in the English curriculum design
4. Globalization and localization in literature development
5. Situationism in an English learning community
6. Developing English learning
7. Theme-based English instruction
8. Action studies in English instruction
9. Occidental children's literature and English instruction
10. Occidental children's literature and cultural awareness
11. Digital English learning
12. Digital English courseware assessment
13. Adapted English placement testing and evaluation
14. Language and cultural instruction
15. Literature and cultural instruction
16. Literature and social instruction
17. Ecological protection and literature instruction
18. Colonialism and globalization in literature

Many other questions will be referred to in the conference in the coming year.
The theme of this conference was chosen to generate further discussion and
academic debate on the above issues.  In particular, presenters and participants
are requested to carefully examine how globalization will continue influencing
the three fields of Language Teaching, Linguistics, and Literature in EFL
contexts.   It is hoped that presenters will make suggestions on how language
teachers, and especially graduate students can participate in further research
that will lead to suggested resolution to some questions.

Submission Procedure:
Submitters of abstracts will be invited for a 20-minute presentation (followed
by a 10-minute discussion).  We welcome relevant studies relevant to the
conference theme or any topic related to or integrating the three areas,
Teaching of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature.  Please send your full paper
with 500-word abstract as an MS Word or PDF attachment to our e-mail address:
TELLc at nknucc.nknu.edu.tw.  In the body of your e-mail message, please indicate
the following information:
    1. Title:
    2. Author(s): Name(s), affiliation, phone number, and email addresses
    3. Topic Area: Area and sub-area (e.g., Linguistics: Syntax)

Submitted papers will be anonymously reviewed.  Accepted papers will be invited
to submit their polished papers to our journal TELL - Journal of Teaching of
Languages, Linguistics, and Literature, which will be issued annually (every six
months) by the English Department of National Kaohsiung Normal University.

University of York on September 8-10 2005.

We invite papers on any aspect of Greek linguistics.

Submission Details

The guidelines for submission are as follows.  Abstracts not conforming to these
guidelines will not be consdered.  Only Electronic Submissions will be considered.

Abstracts for 20 minute talks (plus 10 minute discussion) should:
Be anonymous
Be no longer than 1 A4 page
Use a font no smaller than 11pt
Have at least 2.5cm (1 inch) margins on all sides.

Send your abstract
as an attachment to an email message to: lang32 at york.ac.uk.

The attachment must be in one of the following file formats:
postscript (ps), pdf, ascii.

Please DON'T
Send Microsoft Word or any other proprietary document file format (word-perfect
etc...) we'll just ignore them.

Please DO
Include ALL fonts in pdf documents.
Include your Name, Affiliation, and Title of the paper, in the body of the email.

Languages of the Conference.
Papers may be in English or Greek (we are, unfortunately, unable to deal with
other languages since we don't speak that many and it would be unfair to limit
the conference languages to those spoken by the organisers.)

One important thing:
Do not assume that we are geared up with all Greek fonts etc... It is perfectly
possible that we will be unable to read your abstract if it contains fancy fonts
etc. hence the importance of sending documents in PS/PDF.

*Special Sessions
In this edition the conference will also include a number of special thematic
sessions. These sessions will include a number of talks addressing a single
theme. The abstracts for these sessions must be submitted en block by the
organiser.  Prospective organisers of special sessions should contact the
organising committee as soon as possible.
