Description:

As part of the endeavour to strengthen the Arts and Social Science subjects
in the Faculty of Humanities, the University of Berne seeks candidates for
the following newly created post: Assistant Professor in English Historical
Linguistics.

The post is initially for a four-year period, with the opportunity of a
two-year extension following positive assessment and must be filled by
September 1, 2005.

Candidates should possess a post-doctoral dissertation or proof of 
equivalent academic credentials. Innovative research is expected of the
successful candidate, as are a readiness to work together closely with
researchers from related disciplines and six to eight hours teaching per
semester at the BA and MA levels.

The University of Berne is concerned to increase the number of women in
leading academic positions and thus encourages female candidates to apply
for the position.

Applications should be sent, with a curriculum vitae, a list of 
publications, a description of teaching experience and information on
previous activities and experience of work in academic committees, by
December 20, 2004, to the following address:
