non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Description:

The Linguistics Program at Eastern Michigan University seeks to fill a one-year
Visiting Scientist position for the academic year 2005-6. This position is
suitable for a linguist with demonstrated potential for research excellence in
the area of digital language documentation, computational linguistics, or
language technology. A secondary specialization in sociolinguistics, typology,
or historical linguistics is desirable. The pay scale for this position is
equivalent to that for a beginning Assistant Professor. The Visiting

enhancing its capabilities in language technology. The successful candidate
will be expected to contribute to the management and technical development of
The LINGUIST List (http://linguistlist.org) and to the development of a
Certificate or M.A. in Language Technology. Depending upon the candidate's
interest and qualifications, he or she may also be asked to aid the program in
developing a speech analysis laboratory, training and supervising students in
multi-media Internet technologies, and securing external funding for
LINGUIST-related projects. Preference will be given to linguists with
demonstrated knowledge of computational technologies, as well as the design and
administration of Internet facilities.

Eastern Michigan University is a comprehensive university in southeastern

Linguistics Program is also the primary editing and distribution site of The
LINGUIST List, an email list and website with 19,500 subscribers in 108
different countries. We are seeking someone with versatility, able to
contribute to multiple projects and to interact successfully with a diverse
