POSITION:  Assistant/ Associate Professor, Department of Linguistics --
Teaching English as a Foreign Language, #2058

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 22, 2005

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate (by time of appointment) in
Applied Linguistics, Linguistics or related field. Specialization related
to the teaching of English as a foreign or second language. Record in
teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with professional level.
Ability to teach courses in EFL/ESL and in language acquisition. Ability to
maintain a research program and to direct student research. Ability to
communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus
community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to teach in one or more of the
following areas: second language writing, classroom research, applied
linguistics. Ability to help develop the BA program. Ability to create and
maintain connections with educational institutions in other countries.
Ability to obtain support for research. Demonstrated strong teaching at the
university level. Professional/personal experience with languages other
than English.

DUTIES: Teach courses in language acquisition and in teaching English as a
foreign or second language. Teach courses in applied linguistics at the BA
and MA level. Supervise student research in relevant areas. Engage in
scholarly activity leading to publication. Participate in service to the
department, university, and community.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience and qualifications; probable
salary range: $49,000 - $59,000.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: Letter of application; curriculum vitae; three
recent letters of recommendation; official transcripts from institution
awarding the doctorate and from other institutions documenting coursework
relevant to the position; copies of scholarly publications relevant to the
position; teaching portfolio including teaching statement, course syllabi,
and teaching evaluation summaries.  Employment is contingent upon proof of
the legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided
prior to employment at the University. An appointment is not final until
proof is provided.
